Chris Symeou from Sydney embarked on a unique project to transform a VG Valiant Hardtop into a one-of-a-kind vehicle inspired by the iconic E35 Pacer. The Valiant Hardtop, known for its pillarless design and elongated body, provided a canvas for Chris’s creative vision.
Choosing a Baslac Hot Mustard paint with a tan vinyl roof, Chris aimed to strike a balance between the original Regal 770 model and the sought-after E35 Pacer. The decision to forego traditional stripes and focus on smaller Pacer details set his project apart, garnering admiration as the build progressed.
Starting with a bare shell and boxes of parts, Chris enlisted the expertise of Sebastian Desisto to restore the body, replacing rear quarters and addressing any rust issues. The meticulous paintwork by Nick and Chris Pikis recreated the factory finish, with attention to detail extending to the undercarriage.
The interior of the Valiant received a rare touch with tan vinyl seats, red carpet, and seatbelts, creating a unique color combination that harmonized with the mustard exterior. Restoring the interior to Pacer specifications, including a tacho instrument cluster, dash trims, and floor shift console, added authenticity to the project.
Underneath the Valiant, the factory look was maintained, with red oxide and body color overspray highlighting the floorpan. Upgrades to the BorgWarner transmission and differential ensured optimal performance to complement the Hemi power under the hood.
The heart of the Valiant is a Chrysler Hemi 245ci six-cylinder engine, enhanced with modern EFI technology discreetly integrated into the carb bodies. Collaborating with experts like Bobby Angelkovski and Jim Koundouris, Chris optimized the engine’s performance while retaining its classic appeal.
Blending modern convenience with vintage charm, Chris concealed electronic air-conditioning and power steering components to preserve the Valiant’s original aesthetics. The meticulous attention to detail extended to every aspect of the build, from the driveline enhancements to the seamless integration of new technologies.
After six years of dedication, Chris’s Valiant made its mark at various car shows, earning accolades for its exceptional craftsmanship and unique interpretation of the classic E35 Pacer. Looking ahead to future projects, Chris envisions exploring other iconic car models while cherishing the bonds forged during the Valiant build.
Chris Symeou’s VG Valiant Hardtop stands as a testament to individuality and passion in the world of custom car modifications, showcasing the beauty of blending heritage with innovation to create a truly remarkable street machine.
