Renault Australia has completed local testing of the all-new Captur SUV, gearing up for its anticipated launch in the second half of 2025. The three-month evaluation program focused on validating the Captur’s advanced safety technology on Australian roads. This included testing its driver attention, lane-keeping, and speed-sign recognition systems.
A dedicated team of 11 engineers from Renault’s technical division in Europe conducted the testing in various settings, covering city, suburban, and rural roads in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Over a span of less than three months, they logged a total of 11,000km to ensure the Captur’s readiness for the Australian market.
While specific mechanical and equipment details are yet to be released by Renault Australia, the new Captur is confirmed to introduce Connected Car services for the first time in the country. This includes features like Google Maps with real-time traffic updates, over-the-air updates, and seamless integration with Google Assistant voice control.
The Captur, measuring 4230mm in length, promises a spacious interior, elevated driving position, and sleek design elements that contribute to its premium appearance. The cabin boasts new upholstery, dashboard screens, and Google connectivity technology, all part of an advanced electrical architecture that houses the latest onboard technology and electronic safety systems.
Introduced in Europe in April 2024, the Captur offers a range of customization options, including 14 paint combinations with two-tone finishes. Its exterior features a modern front-end design with a distinctive logo, multi-faceted grille, and available LED lighting. The SUV comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels and offers larger wheel options depending on the variant.
The Captur prioritizes passenger comfort and versatility, offering ample rear seat space with the most legroom in its segment. The rear bench can slide up to 160mm to accommodate either passengers or extra cargo space. The cabin also provides generous stowage options, including a seven-liter glovebox and 616 liters of cargo space.
Renault’s 2025 Captur lineup includes various drivetrain options for different markets, such as petrol, petrol-electric hybrid, mild hybrid, and LPG variants. These options range from a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine to a fully hybrid E-Tech variant featuring a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor.
Renault Australia plans to unveil the pricing and specifications of the next-generation Captur closer to its local showroom debut, promising an exciting addition to the brand’s lineup. The Captur’s successful local testing underscores Renault’s commitment to delivering a safe, technologically advanced, and versatile SUV to the Australian market.
