GWM has recently announced a significant price drop for its Cannon Alpha PHEV light commercial utility range, making it more accessible to customers. The updated model range now starts from $61,490, marking a $2500 reduction from its previous price. This move is part of GWM’s strategy to offer competitive pricing and enhance the all-electric driving range of the vehicle.
The Cannon Alpha PHEV features impressive dimensions, measuring 5445mm in length, 1991mm in width, 1924mm in height, and a 3350mm wheelbase. It boasts off-road capabilities with an 800mm water wading depth, along with a 28.5-degree approach angle, 23.0-degree departure angle, and a manageable 13.9 meters turning circle. The vehicle can tow up to 3500kg and has a payload capacity of 685kg.
Under the hood, the Cannon Alpha PHEV is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor, delivering a robust 300kW/750Nm through a nine-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle’s suspension consists of an all-coil arrangement with double wishbones at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear, ensuring a balanced and comfortable ride.
The entry-level Lux grade of the Cannon Alpha PHEV comes loaded with features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry, faux-leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and advanced infotainment options including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In terms of safety, the Cannon Alpha PHEV offers comprehensive protection with seven airbags, 360-degree camera technology, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and various driver assistance features like hill ascent and descent control, traffic sign recognition, and trailer sway mitigation.
For those seeking more luxury and convenience, the Ultra grade of the Cannon Alpha PHEV adds premium features like a front differential lock, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system. This model also includes advanced technologies such as head-up display, wireless device charging, and auto parking assistance.
GWM’s decision to lower the price of the Cannon Alpha PHEV aims to attract more customers and increase its market share in the competitive utility vehicle segment. With the growing demand for environmentally friendly vehicles, the enhanced all-electric driving range of 115km on the NEDC cycle positions the Cannon Alpha PHEV as a compelling option for buyers looking for a versatile and eco-conscious utility vehicle.
Despite facing tough competition from established players like Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux, GWM remains optimistic about the Cannon Alpha’s potential in the market. The brand’s commitment to offering a comprehensive warranty package and a range of features at a competitive price point is expected to resonate well with consumers looking for value and performance in their utility vehicle purchase.
