In preparation for its Australian launch, the 2025 GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV has undergone significant updates, including a price reduction and an increase in its electric-only range. The base-spec Lux, initially priced at $63,990, is now offered at $59,990, while the top-spec Ultra has dropped from $68,990 to $66,990. This adjustment in pricing, following negotiations at the Shanghai Motor Show, has made the Cannon Alpha PHEV more competitive in the market, with driveaway prices ranging from $61,490 to $64,590 for the Lux and $67,990 to $71,090 for the Ultra.
GWM’s decision to lower the Manufacturer List Prices (MLPs) was a strategic move to enhance the vehicle’s affordability and appeal to customers. Additionally, the company is offering a complimentary 7kW home charger valued at $599 to further incentivize potential buyers. These pricing adjustments are applicable to all Alpha PHEV contracts signed before June 30, 2025, signaling a limited-time opportunity for interested consumers.
Furthermore, GWM has revealed an improvement in the Cannon Alpha PHEV’s electric-only range, which has been extended from 110km to 115km. The combined driving range has also seen an upgrade, now reaching 1060km compared to the previous 880km estimate. Despite not being as cost-effective as its primary competitor, the BYD Shark 6, the Cannon Alpha PHEV boasts a superior overall range, towing capacity, and battery capacity, positioning it as a compelling choice in the market.
Equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine generating 180kW and 380Nm, paired with a nine-speed transmission, the Cannon Alpha PHEV delivers a total output of 300kW and 750Nm. Its 37.1kWh ternary lithium battery, combined with Hi4T PHEV EV technology, enables the vehicle to maintain an EV-only mode in 4×4 high range, enhancing its efficiency and performance capabilities.
Ahead of the imminent Australian launch, GWM anticipates the first deliveries of the Cannon Alpha PHEV to arrive shortly, with test drives scheduled to commence in mid-May. These developments underscore GWM’s commitment to providing innovative and competitive offerings in the hybrid electric vehicle segment, catering to the evolving preferences of environmentally conscious consumers.
In the context of the automotive industry’s shift towards sustainable mobility solutions, the enhancements made to the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV reflect a broader trend of manufacturers prioritizing electrification and efficiency in their product portfolios. As consumer demand for eco-friendly vehicles continues to rise, automakers are increasingly investing in hybrid and electric technologies to meet evolving market expectations and regulatory requirements.
