Mercedes-Benz has introduced special Edition R and Edition R+ versions for its smallest Mercedes-AMG vehicles, adding more features without raising the price. These special editions are available for the Mercedes-AMG A35 sedan and hatch, the CLA35 four-door ‘coupe’, and the hotter Mercedes-AMG A45 S hot hatch and CLA45 S sports sedan.
The Edition R models come with enhancements like the AMG Aerodynamics Package, rear wing/spoiler, larger front splitter, red brake calipers, and unique interior trim. They are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system.
For the Edition R+ variants of the A45 S and CLA45 S, AMG Performance Seats are added along with a fixed rear wing for the CLA45 S. These models boast a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine generating 310kW of power and 500Nm of torque.
Despite the added features, the Edition R and Edition R+ models are priced the same as or even cheaper than their standard counterparts. The Edition R versions of the A35 are $3500 less expensive, while the CLA35 is $4300 cheaper. The Edition R+ versions of the A45 and CLA45 maintain the same price as the base models.
Previously, Mercedes-Benz had released Edition R versions for the AMG C43 and GLC43 models. While these editions offer a sportier look, they are not as visually striking as some of the previous special editions from Mercedes.
Notably, the Mercedes-AMG A45 S Limited Edition was launched last year with distinctive decals, yellow accents, and vibrant green paint. The CLA model is nearing the end of its current generation, with the next iteration expected in Australian showrooms soon, though details on AMG versions are pending.
On the other hand, the A-Class will see its production extended until 2028, postponing its replacement from the initially planned 2026. The special Edition R and Edition R+ Mercedes-AMG models bring a blend of performance and exclusivity to the compact luxury segment without breaking the bank.
These special editions align with Mercedes-Benz’s strategy of offering unique and enhanced versions of their existing models to cater to enthusiasts seeking a blend of style and performance in their vehicles. The Edition R and Edition R+ variants showcase the brand’s commitment to providing customers with options that combine luxury and sportiness in a competitive market.
