When considering luxury SUVs, brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi often come to mind. Yet, the Genesis brand, launched in 2015, has been quietly making its mark in the luxury vehicle space. Currently offering models like the G80, GV80, and GV60, Genesis has now updated its midsize luxury SUV, the GV70, for 2025. The brand claims to have enhanced the GV70’s refinement, comfort, and overall driving experience to compete with European counterparts.
During the local launch in Queensland, we had the opportunity to test drive the revised Genesis GV70 to assess its performance and features. The 2025 GV70 lineup starts at $78,500 for the base Advanced variant, with the flagship Signature Sport priced from $100,000. The Signature Sport model offers a host of premium features, including a 27-inch OLED screen, Nappa leather upholstery, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and more.
Driving the Genesis GV70 through the twisty roads of Springbrook National Park revealed its agility despite its weight. Fitted with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, the GV70 delivers a smooth and responsive performance with ample power. The V6 variant also boasts adaptive suspension, ensuring a comfortable and luxurious ride quality. The cabin’s NVH levels have been significantly improved, providing a serene environment for occupants.
Genesis has focused on enhancing the GV70’s interior for 2025, introducing a wide 27-inch touchscreen that integrates various functions seamlessly. The front seats are luxurious and comfortable, complemented by features like wireless charging, a head-up display, and a phone sterilizer. However, the second-row space may feel slightly cramped compared to other luxury SUVs.
In terms of safety, the Genesis GV70 received a five-star rating from ANCAP in 2021. Standard safety features include blind spot collision avoidance, lane keep assist, smart cruise control, and more. While the GV70 excels in many aspects, some safety systems like speed limit chimes and lane-keep assist may require fine-tuning to enhance the overall driving experience.
Ownership costs for the GV70 are well-covered, with a five-year warranty, complimentary servicing for the first five years, and roadside assistance. The 3.5-liter V6 engine variant offers a decent fuel efficiency of 11.3L/100km combined.
In conclusion, the 2025 Genesis GV70 presents a refined and luxurious option in the midsize luxury SUV segment. With its premium features, comfortable ride, and improved driving dynamics, the GV70 competes favorably with established European rivals. While some safety systems may need adjustments, the overall package of the GV70 makes it a compelling choice for luxury SUV buyers seeking a blend of comfort and performance.
