In the world of custom cars, one vehicle stands out for its unique transformation – the WheelBoyz CV8 Monaro. This CV8 Monaro, originally a Commodore ute, underwent a complete street machine makeover, turning heads with its wild paint, oversized wheels, and impressive audio system. The project was the brainchild of Andrew Manson, a devoted Holden fan and the owner of WheelBoyz.
It all started at Summernats 15 when Andrew, inspired by Street Machine’s Bruce Williams, decided to take on the challenge of customizing a new Monaro. Despite facing challenges in securing the vehicle and meeting tight deadlines, Andrew was determined to create Australia’s first new-generation Monaro street machine.
The project involved intricate aesthetic planning, with a jungle-themed custom paint job that featured bold graphics and vibrant colors. The Monaro’s exterior was further enhanced with a set of massive 20-inch front and 22-inch rear wheels, adding a touch of contemporary American style to the classic coupe.
Under the hood, the Monaro received a power boost with a centrifugal huffer and other performance upgrades, pushing its output to an impressive 285kW. The suspension was also overhauled to accommodate the new wheels, ensuring a perfect balance of style and performance.
Not stopping at exterior and performance modifications, Andrew also focused on enhancing the Monaro’s interior. Opting for a subtle yet personalized approach, the cabin was reupholstered with a mix of dark leather and unique green hide inserts, adding a touch of luxury to the custom ride.
One of the standout features of the Monaro was its custom audio system, designed with a cool ‘nuclear power’ theme. The system included top-of-the-line components like a Clarion head unit, PlayStation 2, Lightning Audio amplifiers, and a strategically placed video screen, creating a futuristic and industrial look.
Despite facing challenges and time constraints, Andrew and his team at WheelBoyz successfully completed the project, showcasing the transformed CV8 Monaro at the Melbourne Motor Show. The Monaro’s journey from a humble Commodore ute to a street machine marvel is a testament to Andrew’s passion for custom cars and dedication to pushing the boundaries of automotive design.
As the CV8 Monaro now seeks a new owner through Firepower Customs & Classics, its legacy as the pioneering street machine of its time lives on, leaving a lasting impression on automotive enthusiasts and custom car aficionados alike.
