A vintage car show in Sutherland, Australia, is set to provide support for disability services in the region. This annual event, organized by Sylvanvale, features a diverse display of over 100 classic vehicles, including notable models like the meticulously restored 1931 Model A Ford Tudor sedan named “Henry” and the elegant 1923 Oldsmobile “Six” Model 30 Sports Roadster known as “Ollie.”
The show’s founder and car enthusiast, Ken Warburton, has dedicated significant time and resources to restore these vintage automobiles to their former glory. “Henry,” a Ford sedan salvaged after a fire in 2011, underwent a two-year restoration process costing $55,000. On the other hand, “Ollie,” the Oldsmobile sports roadster, remains in pristine condition with only 1043 miles on its odometer, a testament to its careful preservation by its previous owner in the 1970s.
In addition to these remarkable vehicles, the event will showcase other gems from Warburton’s collection, such as a 1930 Model A Ford Special Delivery Van and a 1931 Model A Ford Town sedan. The car show has become a highlight in the Sutherland Shire community, attracting around 7000 visitors, including families, to enjoy the festivities, food stalls, and raffles.
The primary goal of this event is to raise funds for the purchase and customization of a new wheelchair-accessible vehicle, catering to the transportation needs of individuals with disabilities supported by Sylvanvale. The CEO of Sylvanvale, Leanne Fretten, emphasizes the importance of accessible transport for people with disabilities, enabling them to participate in essential activities like medical appointments, work, education, and social engagements.
Notably, clients from Sylvanvale’s Garden House and Caringbah Craft Centre will showcase and sell handmade products at the show, further contributing to the cause. The origins of this charitable event trace back to Ken Warburton, who established the car show in 2015 to support Sylvanvale, a cause close to his heart due to his personal connection with disability advocacy through his family’s involvement since 1947.
