The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package has made history by setting three records on three different continents. The latest achievement came at the Shanghai International Circuit, where Porsche development driver Lars Kern clocked an impressive time of 2:11.28 minutes, establishing the Taycan Turbo GT as the fastest series-production car on the Formula 1 track. This record adds to the car’s accolades at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany and the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca in California.
Kern praised the Taycan Turbo GT’s performance and balance, especially under challenging weather conditions during the record attempt in Shanghai. The track’s layout posed unique challenges, with specific focus on the snail curve, where precise braking and acceleration are crucial. The car’s drivetrain, tailored for maximum traction and performance, allowed Kern to reach speeds of up to 300 km/h on the straight.
Utilizing the attack mode, which provides a temporary power boost, the Taycan Turbo GT demonstrated its agility and responsiveness on the Formula 1 track. This feature, along with safety enhancements like a roll cage and racing seat, contributed to the car’s record-breaking performance. Optional Pirelli Trofeo RS tires were also fitted to optimize grip and handling.
Porsche’s introduction of the Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package marked a significant expansion of its electric sports saloon lineup. These models feature advanced technology, including a pulse inverter with silicon carbide components for enhanced power delivery. With intelligent lightweight construction and aerodynamic enhancements, the Taycan Turbo GT sheds up to 75 kg compared to its predecessor, the Taycan Turbo S.
Both variants of the Taycan Turbo GT boast over 1,100 PS of peak power, supported by the Porsche Active Ride suspension system for superior road connectivity. The Weissach package, designed for track performance, emphasizes weight reduction and includes GT-specific tuning for enhanced driving dynamics. The elimination of rear seats in favor of weight savings underscores the car’s focus on performance.
These achievements highlight Porsche’s commitment to innovation and performance in the electric vehicle segment. The Taycan Turbo GT’s record-breaking feats across different continents showcase the car’s versatility and capabilities on varied tracks. With a blend of cutting-edge technology and motorsport heritage, Porsche continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle performance.
