Jason Lowry had a dream of building a hot rod that would stand out from the crowd. Being a loyal Holden enthusiast, he set out to create a unique ’34 Chev coupe that would reflect his passion for street machines. Inspired by iconic vehicles like ZZ Top’s Eliminator ’33 Ford coupe, Jason’s vision was clear – a blend of his love for hot rods and his GM roots.
His journey began with his first car, a Torana hatch, where he and his brother Darren installed a powerful 400ci Chev engine. This early experience fueled Jason’s desire to have an injected engine in his future hot rod. The turning point came when he saw Wayne Pagel’s Crower-injected HJ ute at Summernats, setting the course for what would become the CYCO CHEV, a stunning ’34 Chev coupe with a blown, injected big-block Chev engine.
The meticulous planning for CYCO CHEV started in 2006, with Jason delving into the world of injection systems. Opting for a Kinsler setup, the decision-making process was focused on details like trumpets or butterflies. The choice of Kinsler not only brought a top-notch injection system but also included essential components like the Accel ECU and ignition.
With the foundation laid, Jason’s project gained momentum as he collaborated with Deluxe Rod Shop for the build. The ’34 Chev made its debut at the WA Hot Rod & Street Machine Spectacular, wowing attendees and judges alike with its impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail. Despite some challenges, like receiving a big-block engine instead of a small-block, Jason embraced the power upgrade, pushing the boundaries of his original plan.
Modifications to accommodate the big-block engine included extending the bonnet and grille, giving the car a distinctive gangster look. Fibre Chev played a crucial role in shaping the body to fit the powerful engine within the chassis. Challenges like relocating the radiator and grille were met with innovative solutions, showcasing the expertise and dedication of the builders involved in the project.
The exterior of CYCO CHEV was meticulously crafted, with custom features like shaved handles, hidden hinges, and electric windows, creating a sleek and modern appearance. The choice of Nightshade Green for the paint job added a touch of uniqueness to the vehicle, setting it apart from traditional hot rods.
Inside the car, a collaboration with Mandurah Canvas resulted in a luxurious leather interior that matched Jason’s vision of a classy and sophisticated design. The attention to detail extended to the driveline, with components like a bulletproof Strange Pro nine-inch rear end and a TCI 6X six-speed transmission ensuring optimal performance and drivability.
Jason’s dedication to creating a one-of-a-kind street machine was evident in every aspect of CYCO CHEV’s design and execution. From the powerful engine to the custom interior, every detail was carefully considered to deliver a vehicle that not only looked stunning but also packed a punch on the road.
