Mazda has unveiled the EZ-6 Sports Edition in China in collaboration with Changan, integrating design elements from Mazda’s teams across Japan, China, and Europe. This model comes with two electrified powertrain options and showcases a unique blend of styling cues. Measuring 4921 mm long, 1890 mm wide, and 1485 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2895 mm, the EZ-6 presents a striking presence on the road.
The front end of the EZ-6 features a signature Mazda grille and split-structure headlights, with the primary lamps positioned below the daytime running lights. Known as “Wings of Light,” the lighting system includes an optional illuminated Mazda emblem. The Sports Edition stands out with its black exterior accents and red brake caliper covers, setting it apart from other variants in the lineup.
Stepping inside the cabin, occupants are greeted with black Alcantara seat upholstery complemented by red-black contrast stitching. Dark trim elements adorn the center console and air vents, enhancing the interior’s overall aesthetic appeal with a focus on subtle visual enhancements rather than major structural changes.
While specific specifications for the EZ-6 Sports Edition are yet to be disclosed, insights from the existing model shed light on what to expect. The current model offers two configurations: an extended-range version (EREV) powered by a 1.5-liter engine and a 160 kW rear electric motor, and a battery electric variant (BEV) with a 190 kW motor. Interior highlights include a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, a premium 14-speaker Sony audio system, and 64-color ambient lighting.
Changan’s EPA architecture underpins the Mazda EZ-6, which will be marketed as the Mazda 6e globally. While the pricing for the Sports Edition remains undisclosed, the collaboration between Changan Mazda and CATL to leverage CATL’s CIIC platform for future electric models highlights the industry’s shift towards modular and efficient development approaches.
As the automotive landscape evolves, Mazda’s strategic partnerships and technological advancements position the brand to cater to the preferences of younger drivers and align with the growing demand for electrified vehicles. The introduction of the EZ-6 Sports Edition reflects Mazda’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, setting the stage for a dynamic future in the automotive market.
