Lexus is set to expand its Australian line-up with the introduction of the 2025 LX Overtrail, an off-road-focused variant of the flagship SUV. Building on the success of the GX550 Overtrail launched in 2024, the LX Overtrail is equipped with front, center, and rear lockers to enhance its off-road capabilities. Priced at $122,250 (plus on roads), the LX Overtrail offers a range of off-road traction aids, including Multi-Terrain Select, Downhill Assist Control, and Crawl Control.
The LX Overtrail features a robust set of specifications, including Active Height Control, 18-inch Overtrail alloy wheels, and 265/70R18 Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires. Two powertrain options are available: a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 diesel generating 227kW/700Nm and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol producing 305kW/650Nm. Lexus is also considering introducing a hybrid powertrain to the Australian market.
John Pappas, Chief Executive of Lexus Australia, highlighted the LX’s long-standing reputation for reliability and comfort in traversing Australia’s challenging terrains. The LX Overtrail distinguishes itself with black exterior accents on the front spindle grille, bumpers, wheel arches, and other elements. More details on the LX Overtrail are expected to be revealed in the first half of 2025.
Tristan Tancredi, a journalist with a passion for sports and outdoor adventures, expressed enthusiasm for the LX Overtrail’s capabilities both on and off the road. The addition of the LX Overtrail to Lexus’s lineup reflects the brand’s commitment to providing luxury SUVs that combine comfort with rugged performance.
In the broader context of the Australian automotive market, the introduction of specialized off-road variants like the LX Overtrail caters to the growing demand for vehicles that offer both luxury and off-road capabilities. With advancements in technology and engineering, manufacturers are increasingly focusing on developing vehicles that can handle diverse terrains and provide a premium driving experience.
As consumer preferences evolve and outdoor recreational activities gain popularity, automakers are adapting their product offerings to meet the changing needs of enthusiasts and adventurers. The development of vehicles like the LX Overtrail underscores the importance of versatility and performance in luxury SUVs, appealing to a segment of buyers seeking premium features combined with off-road prowess.
