Kia is set to release a new electric pickup truck in North America, offering an alternative for those seeking an eco-friendly vehicle with hauling capabilities. Following the success of the Kia Tasman truck, the upcoming electric truck is expected to feature best-in-class interior and cargo space, a robust towing system, off-road capabilities, and advanced infotainment and safety features.
While details are currently sparse, Kia has hinted at designing the EV pickup truck for both urban and outdoor use. This new offering will be built on a new EV platform, distinguishing it from existing Kia EV models like the EV6. The company’s decision to include off-road capabilities in the electric truck aims to cater to a broader market segment and compete with established players in the pickup truck industry.
A spokesperson for Kia mentioned that the company has not disclosed any further information about the electric pickup truck yet. However, Kia has ambitious sales targets, aiming to sell around 90,000 units annually in the US market. This goal is notably higher than the current sales figures of other electric trucks like the Ford F-150 Lightning.
Liz Najman, director of market insights at Recurrent, highlighted the potential of Kia’s electric pickup truck in the US market. Given the popularity of trucks in the automotive industry, Kia’s competitive pricing strategy and focus on capability could drive significant sales. Najman emphasized the importance of delivering what customers want, citing successful sales figures of other electric vehicles like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model 3.
Furthermore, with the increasing demand for electric vehicles, Kia’s decision to manufacture the pickups in the US may help avoid additional tariffs, ultimately benefiting consumers by keeping prices competitive. Najman pointed out that Kia’s eGMP line models sold over 100,000 units in 2024, indicating a positive market response to their electric offerings.
As Kia gears up to enter the electric pickup truck market, industry experts believe that the company’s commitment to innovation and consumer preferences could position them favorably in the competitive automotive landscape. With a focus on affordability, capability, and advanced features, Kia’s new electric truck may well capture the attention of eco-conscious consumers seeking a versatile and sustainable vehicle option.
