In a significant move for the 2025 motorsport season, the German privateer GT team, Haupt Racing Team (HRT), has announced its partnership with Ford Performance, marking a transition from its current Mercedes-AMG affiliation to becoming a Ford Performance Mustang GT3 customer team. This collaboration will see the Mustang GT3 competing in various prestigious European series, including DTM, NLS, and the Nürburgring 24 Hours under the banner of “HRT Ford Performance.”
The addition of Ford as a partner will extend HRT’s presence to races like ADAC GT Masters and the SRO-sanctioned Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Endurance and Sprint Cup series. A highlight of this collaboration is the Mustang GT3’s upcoming debut at the ADAC RAVENOL 24 hours Nürburgring in June. This move will position the Mustang GT3 to participate in major 24-hour races, including the Rolex 24, Le Mans 24 Hours, and Spa 24, managed by Multimatic and Proton Competition.
Mark Rushbrook, the global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting HRT’s track record, particularly its 2021 DTM Drivers’ Championship win and the 2023 GT World Challenge Europe title. Rushbrook emphasized the significance of having a successful team like HRT join Ford Performance, praising their achievements in various racing series and expressing excitement about their participation in iconic events like the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
Ulrich Fritz, Managing Director of Haupt Racing Team GmbH, conveyed the team’s eagerness to collaborate with Ford, acknowledging Ford’s rich motorsport heritage and the quality of the Ford Mustang GT3. Fritz emphasized HRT’s expertise in race car development and expressed confidence in elevating the Mustang GT3 to new heights through this partnership.
The collaboration between HRT and Ford Performance signifies a strategic move for both entities, aiming to strengthen Ford’s presence in GT3 racing globally while providing HRT with access to new series and audiences. This partnership not only expands Ford’s racing program but also underscores HRT’s commitment to excellence and innovation in motorsport. The joint venture sets the stage for an exciting 2025 motorsport season, with the Ford Mustang GT3 poised to make its mark across Europe’s most renowned racing circuits.
