BMW M Motorsport has commenced the exhilarating 24 Hours of Le Mans, marking the beginning of a month filled with endurance racing spectacles. The event kicked off with scrutineering in the city center and the official test day. The BMW M Team WRT is showcasing two BMW M Hybrid V8s in the Hypercar class and introducing the EVO version of the BMW M4 GT3 in the LMGT3 class. The primary aim for both cars is to secure a podium finish at this prestigious event that draws over 300,000 spectators. To enhance the overall experience, BMW M Motorsport has curated an extensive support program around the race, complete with a public viewing event at BMW Welt in Munich. Following Le Mans, the racing excitement continues with two more 24-hour classics at the Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps.
Traditionally, the week leading up to the main race is a thrilling time for Le Mans enthusiasts. The technical inspection of the cars, known as scrutineering, takes place in the city center, providing fans with an opportunity to interact with the drivers. The only test day at the Circuit de la Sarthe saw BMW M Team WRT completing a significant number of laps with the BMW M Hybrid V8s and the BMW M4 GT3 EVOs, gearing up for the demanding race ahead.
The driver lineup for the event includes renowned names such as Raffaele Marciello, Kevin Magnussen, and Dries Vanthoor for the BMW M Hybrid V8s, while the BMW M4 GT3 EVOs will be piloted by a talented roster led by Augusto Farfus and Valentino Rossi. The racing action at Le Mans extends beyond the main event, with Team WRT also participating in the Road to Le Mans support races with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO.
For drivers like Augusto Farfus, Raffaele Marciello, and Kelvin van der Linde, the journey from Le Mans to the Nürburgring and then to Spa-Francorchamps poses a unique challenge as they gear up for three consecutive endurance classics.
BMW M Motorsport has curated an immersive support program for both on-site attendees at Le Mans and enthusiasts back at BMW Welt in Munich. The public viewing event at BMW Welt promises a host of special attractions, with BMW M works driver Jens Klingmann and sim racer Nils Naujoks engaging with fans and moderating the race action. The event will also feature the BMW M SIM Challenge and a Carrera track for added entertainment.
Commenting on the preparations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport, emphasized the importance of maximizing track time and data collection during the test sessions to fine-tune strategies for the race week. Vincent Vosse, Team Principal of BMW M Team WRT, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the positive progress made during the test day sessions and the focus on further improvements.
Drivers like Kevin Magnussen, Sheldon van der Linde, Augusto Farfus, and Valentino Rossi expressed their optimism and satisfaction with the test day performances, underscoring their readiness for the challenges ahead at the iconic 24-hour endurance race.
