Celebrity duo Amanda Holden and Alan Carr have embarked on a remarkable venture in Spain, where they have transformed a dilapidated property into a charming boutique bed and breakfast. The property, located in Moclín near Granada, stood abandoned for 35 years until it piqued the interest of the producers of Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job, a television series showcasing the renovation of budget properties overseas.
The rundown three-story house, purchased by the TV production company for a modest sum, required extensive refurbishment, including essential repairs and a new roof. The renovation journey was not without its surprises, as recounted by Holden and Carr, who stumbled upon unexpected challenges such as encountering a snake and a peculiar discovery of “a poo in the bath” during the process.
Following the airing of the show documenting the property’s transformation, the now-revamped residence, rebranded as Casa Alamanda, is up for sale through Granada Village and Country real estate agency. The listing, viewable on platforms like Rightmove, invites offers exceeding €245,000, with the proceeds earmarked for charitable causes, specifically Comic Relief and BBC Children in Need.
The refurbished B&B boasts three spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms, a tastefully designed kitchen, a dining area, and a top-floor bar/living space exuding a sophisticated ambiance reminiscent of an exclusive London club with Moorish-inspired decor. The property also features a rooftop terrace ideal for alfresco dining and potential for additional rooms on the ground floor, previously a stable.
To realize this transformation, Ian Rutter, the director of Granada Village & Country, orchestrated local builders and an architect to collaborate with Holden and Carr. Rutter envisions the project as a catalyst for rejuvenating the village of Moclín, combating the issue of rural depopulation by revitalizing abandoned homes to stimulate the local economy, preserve traditions, and create employment opportunities.
The endeavor undertaken by Holden and Carr not only showcases their creative flair but also symbolizes a broader initiative to breathe new life into neglected rural communities. By repurposing a derelict property into a thriving boutique B&B, the celebrity duo is not only creating a unique hospitality experience but also contributing to the social and economic revitalization of the picturesque Spanish village and its 200 residents.
