Ford is charting its own course in the Supercars arena, diverging from the data pooling strategy embraced by Chevrolet and Toyota for the upcoming season. While General Motors and Toyota are moving towards a collaborative approach among their respective teams, Ford is opting to maintain its independence.
The shift in strategy by Chevrolet involves fostering closer ties among its four teams, as well as tapping into resources from North America. This contrasts with the current setup where Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing, and Brad Jones Racing operate as customers of Triple Eight. Toyota’s future teams also plan to adopt a similar approach in sharing information equally.
However, Ford’s stance remains distinct. The incoming Triple Eight is expected to forge new partnerships, with Blanchard Racing Team being a potential ally, given their recent collaboration. Conversely, Tickford and Dick Johnson Racing are likely to continue operating autonomously.
Ford Australia’s Brendan McGinniskin expressed interest in data transparency at a manufacturer level, although acknowledging the competitive dynamics between teams. While Ford Performance advocates for resource equality, the sharing of information among teams remains a voluntary endeavor rather than a mandated requirement.
Triple Eight’s managing director, Jamie Whincup, highlighted the importance of aligning with other teams to enhance overall performance consistency. While technical agreements with GM or Toyota teams will cease, Triple Eight is open to exploring information-sharing agreements with Ford teams to elevate competitiveness across the field.
As the 2026 season approaches, the Supercars landscape is witnessing a divergence in approaches among manufacturers, with Ford emphasizing individual team autonomy while Chevrolet and Toyota opt for a more collaborative data pooling strategy. The evolving dynamics within the sport underscore the competitive spirit and quest for performance excellence that drive these decisions.
The upcoming season promises to be an intriguing chapter in the Supercars saga, with teams navigating the balance between cooperation and competition to achieve optimal performance outcomes. The contrasting strategies adopted by manufacturers reflect the diverse philosophies at play within the high-stakes world of motorsport.
