A new flagship SUV from Chery, the 2025 Chery Tiggo 9 seven-seat plug-in hybrid, has been spotted in Australia, signaling its imminent arrival in local showrooms later this year. The Tiggo 9 is set to join the lineup as the brand’s top-tier model, positioned above the Tiggo 8 Pro Max.
Originally anticipated to launch in the middle of the year, the Chery Tiggo 9 is making its way to Australian shores sooner than expected. The international variant of this seven-seat SUV is known as the Chery Tiggo 9, while in China, it is marketed as the Tiggo 8L, and internationally as the Jaecoo J8.
As part of Chery’s SUV lineup in Australia, the Jaecoo J8 shares similarities with the export-market Chery Tiggo 9 but is offered with five seats, whereas the Tiggo 9 boasts a seven-seat configuration. The Tiggo 9’s dimensions, measuring 4810mm in length, 1925mm in width, and 1729mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2770mm, surpass those of the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, offering more space and comfort for passengers.
Equipped with plug-in hybrid technology, the Chery Tiggo 9 is expected to combine a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine generating 175kW/385Nm with a 165kW electric motor. In comparison, the Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 7 Pro models are anticipated to feature a smaller 1.5-liter system, highlighting the Tiggo 9’s higher performance capabilities.
Additional powertrain options for the Tiggo 9 include a non-hybrid version featuring a 187kW/390Nm 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This variant offers increased power output compared to the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, enhancing the driving experience for potential buyers.
Inside the Tiggo 9, advanced technological features await, including a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a head-up display. The SUV also offers a range of luxury amenities such as 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, brown leather upholstery, and a suite of driver-assist technologies including a 360-degree camera system.
More details regarding pricing and specifications for the 2025 Chery Tiggo 9 will be disclosed closer to its official launch in Australia in the latter part of the year. With its blend of cutting-edge technology, spacious interior, and powerful performance, the Tiggo 9 is poised to make a significant impact in the competitive SUV market.
