Australia’s electric van market is on the brink of a significant expansion, as Chinese automotive giant Geely’s Farizon Auto brand gears up to make its debut in the country. Farizon Auto, which recently announced its foray into right-hand drive markets like the UK, has now inked a deal with Saudi Arabian-based Jameel Motors to introduce its electric vehicles (EVs) in Australia.
The arrival of Farizon will bring the Supervan (SV) cargo van and the H9E truck to Australian shores, with Jameel Motors targeting the first half of 2025 for their availability, although the exact delivery timeline remains undisclosed. The SV, expected to be the brand’s top-selling model, has already secured Australian Government approval for sale.
While specific local specifications are yet to be confirmed by Jameel, the Farizon SV boasts a modular platform that supports three battery pack options – 68kWh, 83kWh, and 106kWh, all of which have received the green light. The UK variants are said to offer a driving range of up to 558km with the 106kWh battery pack, powered by a standard 170kW front-mounted electric motor.
Approved in various configurations, the Farizon SV lineup includes short, medium, and long wheelbase options, with towing capacities ranging from 750kg to 2000kg and a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 3500kg across the board. These dimensions position the SV in direct competition with the LDV eDeliver 7, which is available in short and long-wheelbase variants.
Furthermore, the Farizon SV is anticipated to offer both windowed and windowless sliding side door options, all complemented by 16-inch wheels. Additional details about the electric van are expected to surface closer to its impending local launch.
Alongside the Farizon SV, Jameel Motors will also introduce the Farizon H9E truck to the Australian market, available in short and long-wheelbase configurations with GVMs of 4500kg and 8000kg, respectively. This expansion aligns with the impending introduction of Geely’s primary brand in Australia, set to unveil the EX5 SUV in the first half of 2025.
Geely’s diverse portfolio of automotive brands, including Lotus, Polestar, Smart, Volvo, and Zeekr, underscores the conglomerate’s strategic approach to the Australian market. The impending arrival of Farizon Auto and Geely’s flagship brand signals a significant shift in Australia’s automotive landscape, offering consumers a broader range of electric vehicle options.
As the automotive industry continues to witness a surge in electric vehicle adoption, the entry of Farizon Auto and Geely into the Australian market reflects a growing trend towards sustainable transportation solutions. With an array of electric vans and trucks set to hit the roads in the near future, consumers can look forward to a more diverse selection of eco-friendly commercial vehicles.
