Peugeot Australia recently made significant changes to its powertrain strategy, opting to phase out plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and delay the launch of several electric vehicles (EVs). The company is set to introduce a new mild-hybrid powertrain across multiple model lines, with new EVs not expected until 2025 due to the evolving electric vehicle landscape in Australia.
While details on the upcoming EV lineup are scarce, Peugeot has confirmed the arrival of the E-Partner and E-Expert vans. The Peugeot 208, featuring the electric E-208 variant, is scheduled for release in 2024, with plans to expand the EV range in 2025.
Similarly, the Peugeot 308 will see the introduction of a new 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder mild-hybrid powertrain in 2025, replacing the phased-out PHEV version. The 408 model will also transition to a mild-hybrid powertrain in 2025, replacing its existing PHEV variant.
Peugeot has confirmed the discontinuation of the 508 model in Australia, and the 2008 is expected to receive a mild-hybrid powertrain in 2025. The updated E-2008, featuring enhanced specifications, is anticipated to launch post-2025.
Pre-orders are now open for the new-generation 3008, set for delivery in early 2025. Although the European market offers a PHEV option, the Australian variant will feature the 1.2-litre turbo three-pot mild-hybrid system. The E-3008 electric version, initially planned for release this year, has been postponed.
Peugeot’s largest SUV, the 5008, will also adopt a mild-hybrid powertrain in 2025 alongside the introduction of a new generation model. The electric E-5008 is expected to join the lineup, offering various battery options for extended range.
While Peugeot’s powertrain strategy undergoes a significant shift towards mild-hybrid technology, the company is adapting to the evolving market demands for electric vehicles. With the landscape of the automotive industry constantly changing, Peugeot aims to align its offerings with the dynamic preferences of Australian consumers.
As Peugeot Australia navigates these changes, the company remains committed to providing innovative and environmentally friendly solutions to meet the evolving needs of the Australian automotive market.
