BYD has unveiled official images of the Seal 06 GT, the production version of the Ocean-M concept, as its debut approaches in just six days. The new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer shared three images of the Seal 06 GT on Weibo, showcasing its front, side, and rear views. The car’s design exudes a sporty and performance-oriented look that differs slightly from the more aggressive Ocean-M concept.
The Ocean-M was initially revealed at the 2024 Beijing auto show, where BYD introduced it as the industry’s first rear-drive performance hatchback. Set to hit the market in the third quarter of the same year, the production Ocean-M will feature a price range between RMB 150,000 and RMB 200,000. This model will be underpinned by BYD’s latest all-electric platform and will be powered by a new generation of C2B (cell to body) batteries.
Head of BYD’s Ocean series, Zhang Zhuo, recently announced on Weibo that the production variant of the Ocean-M concept will be named the Seal 06 GT. This GT model, tailored for the younger demographic, will make its official debut at the upcoming Chengdu auto show on August 30. The event, scheduled from August 30 to September 8, will take place in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province in southwest China.
BYD aims for the Seal 06 GT to be an electric counterpart to the iconic Golf GTI by Volkswagen, known for its sportiness and agile handling characteristics.
