The 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado has made its debut in Australia, boasting a fresh design, enhanced off-road capabilities, and a higher price tag compared to its predecessor. The 250 Series lineup consists of five four-wheel drive models, with prices ranging from $72,500 for the base GX variant to $99,990 for the top-tier Kakadu edition.
Under the hood, all models are equipped with a 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine featuring 48-Volt V-Active mild hybrid technology, delivering 150kW/500Nm of power through a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Notably, the Prado range now incorporates electric power steering for improved handling at different speeds.
Constructed on a robust ladder-frame chassis, every Prado model includes a center locking differential for off-road support, with higher-end models offering a locking rear differential. Moreover, all variants boast a braked towing capacity of 3500kg, catering to those with towing needs.
Prices for the 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado have seen a substantial hike compared to the previous generation, reflecting the added features, safety enhancements, and technological advancements. The GX and GXL models remain below the Luxury Car Tax threshold, while the VX, Altitude, and Kakadu variants are subject to the additional tax.
The entry-level GX model comes with a host of features, including a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen display with wireless connectivity, and Toyota Safety Sense for added driver assistance. Moving up the range, the GXL model introduces additional amenities like synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats, and a wireless smartphone charger.
Stepping further up the ladder, the VX model offers advanced off-road capabilities with features like Multi-terrain Select, Adaptive Variable Suspension, and a 5-mode Drive Mode Select system. On the other hand, the Altitude variant enhances the off-road experience with a unique stabilizer disconnect mechanism, electronically locking rear differential, and off-road Toyo tires.
At the top of the lineup, the Kakadu model elevates luxury and convenience with a panoramic moonroof, ventilated rear seats, and a manually-adjustable driver seat cushion. It also includes a head-up display and a rear Torsen limited-slip differential for enhanced performance.
To complement the off-road prowess of the new Prado, Toyota offers a range of genuine accessories designed to enhance functionality and capability. These include various bullbar styles, a Warn-sourced winch, recovery points, tow accessories, roof racks, and a snorkel, catering to serious off-road enthusiasts.
The 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado is now available for purchase at authorized dealerships across Australia, with over 17,000 pre-orders already in line. Toyota anticipates strong demand for the new Prado, with the mid-spec GXL 7-seater expected to be a popular choice among buyers.
Despite potential delivery delays due to high demand, Toyota aims to streamline the ordering process to provide customers with clear timelines for their vehicle deliveries. For those seeking alternatives, other off-road family SUVs like the Nissan Patrol, Ford Everest Wildtrak, Isuzu MU-X, and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport are viable options in the market.
