Beginning early on in the day at 8:30am, car clubs from across South East Queensland put in their share of the work to arrange pre-meets around Brisbane city. Pre-meet attendees began flooding in at 8:30am in order to head off at 10am for the main event being held at Queensland Raceway. -
Todd Kopelke's Datsun1200 Ute
When Todd Kopelke first got his hands on this Datsun 1200 ute as an unfinished project, it was nowhere near what you see here. For the princely sum of $2700, Todd’s Datto was running a Holden Series 1 V6 motor, but the rest of it turned out to be quite underwhelming by Todd’s standards. With multiple layers and colours of paint over less-than-perfect panels and the usual smattering of body filler, Todd decided that this was going to need the whole nine yards in order to make it into what he wanted, and the results of the build speak for themselves. This comes from a guy who had already had some good results in the burnout world on more than one occasion, winning a couple of times in the six cylinder class at Kalbar and fourth outright in the 2009 Archerfield Queensland Burnout series. With a bit of brassware to show for his efforts, Todd thought that the Datto should shine as well.. . . . Photos by Just Dave Photography
