  Issue 4 - Cairns Auto Spectacular 2010

  The smell of burning rubber and smoke clouds took over the skies of Cairns for the annual Cairns Show Auto Spectacular. The event held on 25th and 26th September 2010 was not just about smoke and rubber . It is also where beautifully restored Hot Rods, Beaut Utes and Old Classics from across the region come to strut their stuff for the two day event. This year for the first time a 4WD competition was held, sponsored by the boys at Opposite Lock. Competitors tackle the terrains of sand, dirt, rock and logs to take home the title of the ultimate 4wd winner. Also throughout the day was a dyno competition and Go to Whoa challenge. All contestants put on a great show for the public. To top off the day the DR Stunts motorbike crew put on an amazing performance as usual. SO no matter what your taste there was plenty of entertainment for the whole family. Owen Webb from Meguires judged over 100 vehicles across 32 categories and awarded Colin McGahan and his 1932 Ford Coupe car of the show. The event was a huge success and will be back again this year.   Issue 4 - Phil Thompson's Mazda RX3

  The Mazda RX3 is well known throughout the world and although it was slower than its predecessor, the RX2, it proved itself in factory racing, claiming many class wins and podium dominations. The 1972 model was the first release of the RX3 and it was equipped with a 10A rotary motor. This causes confusion amongst consumers as the previous RX2 was equipped with the more powerful 12A rotary. To fix this problem, Mazda released the 1973 model with a 12A motor but this car was still slower even though it weighed less than the RX2. The reason for this was the Rotary Engine Anti Pollution System that hurt the amount of torque output and as a result, the 12A equipped RX3 ran slower down the quarter than the 10A model.
