Issue 8 - Phatty and Brett's Sendoff
It looked like a scene from Summernats – a pile of tough cars rocking up, all detailed to the hilt, but this day wasn't a car show or a competition, it was the day to say our goodbyes to Brett and Phatty. Those in the car scene, especially in South East Queensland, would have seen or known Brett and Phatty.... two of the most entertaining characters you could ever met. Unfortunately their lives were cut short by a road accident and they have passed on way earlier than we all would have liked. The who's who of the car scene turned up in their hundreds to say their respects and goodbyes in one of the most touching funerals I have ever been too; a happy, but at the same time sad ceremony. It’s so hard to say goodbye to friends or family that mean the world. I definitely know we will miss their laughter and pranks around the traps and I’m thinking we will all need to get some new inspiration without them egging everyone on to skid it...... With that in mind that's what everyone did, it might not have been legal and everyone is responsible for their own actions but everyone showed Brett and Phatty the respect they would have wanted. For the people that knew them there was no other way they would have wanted to go out ... and that was with a bang ...namely the sound of Amanda popping both tires. Issue 2 - Pro Street Mackay June 2010
Mackay’s traditional Pro-Street event had, for the past five years, always seen some of Australia’s very best cars make the trek up north; and with the Australian Pro Street Association now in the hands of Johnny Wilson, Simon Kryger and John Habib, the first event ‘under new management’ was no exception. With plans underway for four APSA events a year, the traditional Mackay meet saw many debutantes from as far as Victoria and Sydney, as well the debut of the Outlaw 10.5 class at Mackay.
Issue 5 - Michael's VL Commodore
Seeing a VL Commodore on the road with a P plate on it, most people would assume the driver is a bit of a hoon, usually with a set of skid rims on the back, cut down springs and untasteful stickers all over the back window. Well Michael Csorba’s VL is one Commodore that does not give that impression. “I wanted a Manual VL at the time, as it was the craze” says Michael “I bought mine as a stocker for $400 off my mate, dragged it out of his back yard, with three different types of rims on it”
Issue 8 - Paul Brush's - 1969 HK GTS Monaro
The HK is the very beginning of the legend that is the Aussie Monaro. Its classic lines inspired many people across the country and beyond and sparked a racing legend that still holds true today. A fair few of these cars were produced and sold as were their later brothers, the HT and the HG. Paul Brush owned a HG back in the nineties and it was a show stopper and cover car for quite a few magazines. Its name was Mystic Pearl but it was regrettably sold to pay some debts. Ever since then, Paul has wanted another classic and with the re-release of the Monaro in the early 2000s, Paul tried to fill that gap with a late model substitute. But nothing beats a classic and after the birth of his son Darian in 2008 Paul and his family were in the right position to get back that classic.
