For some of us Father’s Day is all about relaxing with the kids and taking the day off to enjoy the attention that being a Dad brings on this special day each year. For around two and a half thousand Mackay and District locals though it was a little bit different, they made the pilgrimage to Pinnacle (west of Mackay Queensland) for the Annual Shannons Dad’s Day Out Show and Shine that was put on by Russel Soper from Shannons Insurance and ably assisted by the newly formed Pioneer Valley Classic Car Club. - Story by Russel Soper
Issue 9 - Mackay Rod & Custom Show 2011
The 2011 Mackay Motorshow was very well attended, with perfect weather for both days. Held bi-annually and organised by the forty five year old Mackay Rod and Custom Club many months are spent preparing for the show, which is steadily growing in popularity. Car enthusiasts travelled to this year’s show from as far as Cairns and Canberra. Motor vehicle lovers headed out in their thousands to wander around and enjoy the hot rods, classics, customs, motorbikes and even boats on display at the McAleese Transport Depot on Farrelly’s Lane. Around a hundred and fifty entrants including some elite level show cars competed in top street machine, top Holden and Ford, top ute, toughest car of the show, top drag car, top hot rod, top body work, best body kit and top bike categories. At the dinner on Saturday night awards were presented to the top ten entries and the People’s choice Award was given to Peter Fitzpatrick from Cairns.
